Practice with faces

Since I have been back to school I have practiced with the images I took of Jordan and made them into short stop motions, I am going to talk to my teacher about the idea next week and see weather I should add this element to my stop motion.
I have been thinking and I don't feel that adding this kind of element will fit into my stop motion that well, as I couldn't over lay the images on my excising animation because I chopped it up to create the magazine advert.
So I am going to leave my animation as it is and probable explain my reasons for this in my evaluation.

Experimenting for improvement of animation

For the analysing I previously did of the music video animation, I took some pictures of my boyfriend to practice the cutting out and to see how it works. If I decide to use this in my animation I will use a girl with dark hair to represent Lily Allen. First of all I took some photos of him walking, to create the walking effect in the music video. Then I got him to pull different faces but doing it slowly, then printed them out, which took forever because my printer decided to break! Once I had printed them out I cut round the edge of the photograph, then keeping them in order piled them on top of each other and photographed this. Taking different ideas from the music video animation I last looked at. Then when I get back to school on Tuesday I can edited them exactly the same as I did my animation to see how this works. Once I have done this I will ask my teachers and class mates how they think it looks and whether or not they think it will fit into my animation which I have already created and how I will blend it in to fit.

These are a few of photographs I took of the photographs taken and printed above, from these I realise that if I use this technique in my animation I will have to use a much higher quality of both camera and printer. I would use the camera that I borrowed from school and an art printer as I did before. The next step is to put them on my memory stick and take them to school on Tuesday to then download them onto abode premier the program I used for my stop motion animation and quicken up the pace to see how they look and weather or not to use this technique in the real thing.

Here I decided the most practical idea would be to place the beads onto an actual CD case to get a much better sense of the size and therefore the overall look. I placed the CD onto a white piece of paper, went through all of the beads again picking out the best ones, (explained below.)

I still feel, looking at the two images above that I need to selected a smaller colour palette for the photograph to work, and link into my other work, I am going to use the large red beads as this shows the connotation of the fear. Also to show continuity I am using the same necklaces and extra beads of the same type, along with a few others which are similar colours.
Again this is to close up, I am having the same problems as I did before.
As you can see from the photograph above the box I was using was to small, I will have to try the beads in a different way.
The lighting is to bright on the photograph above.

I really like the image above but I feel that because the picture was taken very close up, because the box I was using was very small, by the time I would have edited it to be the correct shape for a CD case you would only be able to see a few beads.

The above image shows the issues of size, first of all I used a rectangle box, which was to big so I decided to try out a different container.


These images above and below was using millions of beads millions of different colours I feel that this was to bright and in-your-face for the style of my animation and other elements, especially the other CD images. So I picked 1 by 1 which beads I wanted to include, by colour.

Ideas

I am taking the idea from The Art of the Title sequence website idea, were they take the best or what they think are the most important shots. Then they analyse them. But I am going to do it with clips instead of stills because I feel this shows ideas clearer.

I could use this idea for my opening credits to explain to the viewer important information, and the hand interaction is something that I used in my animation already and something that worked well.


The photographs of of a stop motion, then having a photo of the photos on top of each other, this would take time but I feel this is very effective. From my feedback I got told that I need some more human interaction. Such as a picture of someone with dark hair walking (looking a little like Lily Allen)


This idea of using the photos again, moving across the page works well, I will have to experiment with this using my own photos.


This idea of having the work scrunched up and then opening again into something different is an idea I have already looked at, I feel this works well but I may have a problem using this as I have already destroyed my animation to create the magazine cover. I could possible re-do the opening keeping the style in keeping but using different techniques and using photos like they have in this animation, the scrunching up the work to reveal the better half of the animation I have already created. I am going to take some photos and experiment with a few ideas so when I go back to school on Tuesday I can show my teachers what I have and they can guide me in the right direction.


This is the idea I am going to use to practice with the photos and create a moving image. I like the way the photos appear to walk across the page.


This is also taking the photo idea and moving them randomly which is in keeping to my animation. The heart is something I may also include but I would use a animated fake heart such as the purple one already included in my video. I think this is going to be the main problem of changing the beginning section is to make it flow and make sure it doesn't look like to animations stuck together randomly.


This is another idea which folds the paper over, similar to the scrunching of the paper, this gives the sense of non realism. It is only an animation.


Another photograph idea, I like this one but I feel it may be to far away on the similarity aspects compared to what I already have as my animation.


This is practical the same as above but includes aspects which link into other ideas from this video and my animation. If I was going to use this idea I would also use this idea of having other animated things around the changing photos and I wish to incorporate some more human interaction as I feel it works well it what I already have.


This in a way is similar to my magazine advert although you don't see the transition, all the images included in the animation brought together to create a busy image full of all the aspects in the animation. I probable wont be able to do this as I have used all the images and aspects from the animation already, but this shows links in the ideas behind it, especially as I did not see this until after I created my magazine advert.


The red triangles link into my theme of my animation the fear I could experiment with different shapes.

Once I had completed my CD front and back cover I took the same colour background and applied to an A4 sheet on Photoshop, for my maganize advert. I wanted it to be similar to the CD covers to show continuity from the animation to the CD package to the advert. The reason for this is so viewers will recgonise them separatly and as a whole. So I also decided to keep the writing the same, the messy painted red 'The Fear which is bold but is still in keeping with the animation. I used the same type face for 'Lily Allen' as this is similiar to her font used on the cover of It's Not Me It's You album, and the black contrasts with the background, making the writing stand out but not to 'in your face.'
For the art work which appears through the hands in the shape of the heart; I cut up the A3 sheet which was the animation and rearranged the main images closley together, I also added some black and red, the red shows the FEAR and the black contrasts with the other colours therfore making them stand out. Then I photographed a friends hands wearing bold jelwery which links to Lily Allen, because of her fashion style.
I choose this photograph because it is the best, her hands don't cover to much of the art and you can clearly see that they are formed into a heart shape, this links to the CD package and in turn the animation. I gathered my ideas for this from research I had previously made. This research is in the CD package slide in the blog entry before. I liked the idea of having the hand displaying the work, this links into the animation when you see my hand placing letters onto the page. 'The Fear' in also tilted fowards as on the CD covers, this shows a sense of depth which reflects the song, two ways you can take it.
Once I had cut out the hands I placed them in the right possision on the page then added the infomation that was needed. The other songs on the single, the instiution and the relivant websites. Overall both the CD package and advert have a simple style but I felt that this was in keeping with the animation, Lily Allens work and the the song.

I tryed out having the hands in different shapes to see what it would look like but I deffinelty feel the heart is the best as it shows links to both the CD package and the animation.

Practice

Using the photos I had taken previously and using school software (windows movie maker) I create a minute long clip by setting each photo to be 0.04 seconds long I to create a animation which is 1.14 minutes long I used 208 photos so I worked out that I will roughly need 795 photographs. Next I will have to work the beat along with words, so when I have created my animation it goes and will fit together.



The bits I like and dislike about my practice stop motion animation -

I spoke to my teacher about my ideas and he suggested two videos to me. I said to him that I want it be a piece of art by the end of the song. The tone and style will change though out but in the end it will come together, like a story. This is a video he suggested from me saying that to him. Ukraine's got talent, an artist who manipulates sand to create hundreds of different images.
This women won the Ukraine's got talent, the way she uses sand to create these drawings which evolve and change is amazing. Although I am not creating an animation out of sand the idea is fantastic and the way that it is art tell a story through music.

The other music video in stop motion animation is precious time by the Maccabees, but unfortunately this You Tube clip has disabled embedding, so I can not put the video in to my blog, here is the URL link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBL3j5TPvY8 this music video also embodies the artistic qualities and tell a story. This video is very relevant because it uses real life photographs of the band and shows the hands creating the animation. These are two aspects which I am going to incorporate into my animation. There is an enormous problem with this though I can only use photos which I have taken of Lily Allen and the only ones I have are taken from too far away or blurry so they are not going to work, I will talk to my teacher about this in my next lesson, Tuesday.

Like the Maccabees stop motion animation video and all of the music and muffins animation they have no camera angles apart from in the Maccabees video which incorporates an upwards angle when the camera moves to look out of the video. Because I am only photographs the only angles I will have is a downwards shot, I am going to get a camera and tripod for school and get filming over the weekend and the beginning of next week. The reason for using a tripod is so the camera is still to avoid as much movement of the image. I will also tape the piece of paper which is going to develop into a piece of art work like the Ukraine got's talent winner. I am going to use my wooden floor as the background and I use a zoom technique into the paper. This is the only camera technique I am going to have. I feel the contents means that camera angles are not necessary and would detract the attention from the main focus the animation.

I remembered these images that I created when me and Anna were working together, I found them.

The use of the acetate is somethings that I may incorporate into my animation as it shows injection of colour and you can still see the drawings and images underneath, the layer effect gives a sense of time which is an aspect I want for my animation as it shows the build up of work, like a piece of art work and this is the effect I want.

Because I only have a few very poor first hand images of Lily Allen that I have taken from gigs and festivals I am not going to use them. And I am not aloud (because of copy right) to use images of the Internet. Although I can include images of other items such as in the images above, the handbag, flower and rock. I could use images that are relevant such as pictures of a sun and a mirror and the headings of these Newspaper.

I want my animation to show the relationship between real life and the mediated world, the song and all of my ideas shown in this and other blog entry's will hopefully result in a stop motion animation which represents this in a subtle way. The idea of my animation building up and constantly changing like a piece of art but also the media because it is constantly evolving and developing. This attracts aspiring audiences, but also viewers who watch it on face value.
